LIFE UPDATE

Hey everyone! How have you been? This isn’t really a major life update, but since this is my first blog post and I didn’t really know a good place to start, AND I know most of you reading this first post of mine have probably been following me on Instagram for a while. So I’m going to kind of update you on the things you’ve been seeing in my Instagram stories.

Currently, in this moment, I’m once again realizing my post-Covid life. (How much I love it.) I am HOME. A lot. Something that I never thought would be possible in the pre-Covid world. It’s been 2 years since I returned to work after quarantine, and like many of you, it seems I get to keep my really great Covid schedule. Except now, I have reliable childcare! I really missed that when it was gone. The last time my kids had to stay home from school because of Covid was back in January, so it feels like I can start to keep plans that I make… finally!

The best part about my new/continuing work schedule and the reliable childcare is that I can finally follow my dreams of being an artist. I spend a big chunk of almost every off day working on some form of art, and I spend a lot of time learning new things too. I’ve also done yoga every day since quarantine too, and I love it so much.

But anyway, I know you’re here for the art!

I spent the first couple of months of this year cleaning and organizing all of my art spaces. All of that has been mostly done for a while, so I’ve been deep diving into all of my unfinished (quilt) projects. I’ve had unfinished quilts that I’ve been getting finished, and also idea quilts that have been stuck in my head for a while and I’m finally getting them out and turning them into something real. I plan to start blogging about the process of individual quilts since everything can get jumbled up in stories, so be sure to subscribe to keep up with the details of each quilt.

With pottery, I’m still only in my second year. I currently have 18 months of experience. So I’ve been treating pottery like I’m still in my college years. I block out time every week to go into the pottery studio for half a day. I love it. It’s one of the most challenging and most relaxing and rewarding parts of my week. I plan to keep sharing my process and listing my work for sale as I have it available, but my focus is still on learning right now and not selling, so my store will not be consistently available. But that can assure you that each piece is made with intention to create art and not just to earn a few bucks. Be sure to subscribe if you want to be notified when I do make items available in my shop.

Lastly, I’m also getting back into photography and I was voted the #5 stylist in Best of Birmingham earlier this month, but we can talk about all of that later!
